The Baltimore Orioles exited SanDiego stage north following a 5-2 loss to the Padres Wednesday night. The loss in itself was tough because it allowed the Tampa Bay Rays to gain a game on the Orioles in the Division race. Making it worse, however, was the Fernando Tatis Jr. steal of home in the seventh inning. Cionel Perez (0.1 IP, 1 H) seemingly forgot that he had a runner on third base and Tatis Jr pulled off an uncontested straight steal of home. That came after Perez made an errant throw to first on a pick-off attempt with Tatis Jr. trying to steal second.

San Diego’s Blake Snell held the Orioles bats in check, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Cracking the code was Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI), who hit his 16th homerun of the season in the sixth inning, and Adley Rutschman (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1R).

Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 3 with a walk.

James McCann went 1 for 3.

Dean Kremer (11-5) started and took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4.

Jacob Webb (1.0 IP) continues to pitch well, retiring the side in the 8th inning, in contrast to Shintaro Fujinami (0.2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 HR) who is just unpredictable game to game.
