The Baltimore Orioles visited Bradenton, FL on Sunday and came away with a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Grayson Rodriguez made his second start of the Spring and left after walking Bryan Reynolds to open the third inning. Rodriguez gave up three singles with two outs in the first inning which put the Pirates on the board. His departure may have been a pitch count issue; Rodriguez threw 49 pitches (27 strikes) to finish with a line of 2.0 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Colton Cowser (1 for 3, HR, 1 R, 1 RBI) evened the score with a third inning homerun to right.
Both teams traded scoreless fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Pirates used three singles in the seventh to score on Cade Povich (2.0 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 3K). The Orioles answered that run with one of their own in the eighth when Connor Norby (1 for 1, 2B, 1 R, 1 BB), who had doubled, scored on a Kyle Stowers (1 for 2, 1 RBI, SB) RBI single.
The Orioles worked two one-out walks by Silas Ardoin (0 for 0, 1 BB) and Daniel Johnson (0 for 0, 1 R, 1 BB) in the ninth inning and TT Bowens (1 for 1, HR, 1 R, RBI) hit a homerun to left to account for the difference in the score. Greg Cullen (0 for 0, 1 R) pinch ran for Ardoin.
Kade Strowd (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) finished out the game for Povich who was credited with the win and is now 1-0 on the Spring.
Jorge Mateo (0 for 3) started in centerfield and recorded three putouts.
Jackson Holliday (0 for 3) saw time at both second base and shortstop.
James McCann went 1 for 3 with a double.
Tyler Nevin went 1 for 3.
