Friday night at Camden Yards marked the home debut of the 2022 overall number one draft pick Jackson Holliday (0 for 3, 3 K). Icing on that cake was the fact that he was facing off against Milwaukee’s wunderkid Jackson Chourio (0 for 6, 3 K). In the end, the Milwaukee Brewers took the Baltimore Orioles to the woodshed, winning by a score of 11-1.
It was a night for the longball. Colton Cowser (2 for 3, 2B, HR, R, RBI, BB) hit his third homerun in the past two days, accounting for Baltimore’s only run. The Brewers hit three homeruns, harkening back to the Harvey Wallbangers days of the ’80’s.
Jordan Westburg (1 for 4, SB), James McCann (1 for 3), Cedric Mullins (1 for 3) and Ramon Urias (1 for 1) were the only other Birds to “solve” Milwaukee pitching.
Tyler Wells (0-2) started and lasted just 4.0 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits (1 HR), while walking 1 and striking out 3. He took the loss, his second of the season without a victory.
Jonathan Heasley poured gasoline on the fire, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits (2 HR) with a walk, 2 strikeouts and a wild pitch.
Jacob Webb allowed a run on 2 hits and walked 1 while pitching the ninth inning.
The lone bright spot among the pitchers was Dillon Tate (2.0 IP, BB, K).
