The Baltimore Orioles dropped Tuesday’s game to the LA Angels by a score of 7-4. Trailing 7-0 after four innings, the Birds just could not mount enough of a comeback against Angels pitching.

Baltimore starter Grayson Rodriguez (3-1) did not pitch with his usual panache. The righty lasted just 4.1 innings and allowed 7 runs on 11 hits, including a 1st inning homerun to Mike Trout, walked 1 and struck out 7. Rodriguez threw 82 pitches (55 strikes) to 24 batters and took the loss, his first of ’24.

Three relievers combined to hold the Angels scoreless but the O’s bats couldn’t compensate for the early deficit. Dillon Tate (1.2 IP, K), Keegan Akin (0.2 IP, BB, 2 K) and Yohan Ramirez (1.1 IP, 2 K, HBP, PO) in fact, held the Angels hitless as well.

On a night when Jackson Holliday (1 for 4, R) recorded his second career hit, newly called up Heston Kjerstad went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.

Gunnar Henderson hit his seventh homerun of the season, 414 ft. to right field, in the seventh inning to finish the night 1 for 4 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.

The Orioles scored the bulk of their runs (3) in the fifth inning with the big blow being a two-RBI double by Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 1, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB).

Adley Rutschman went 3 for 5 with a run scored.

Jordan Westburg went 1 for 4 with a run scored.

Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 1) pinch hit for O’Hearn in the seventh and singled.

In the end, the Angels did more with their 11 hits than the Orioles did with their 8.
