The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Washington Nationals 7-6 in 12 innings on Wednesday. Honestly, it should not have taken that long. The Orioles were leading 3-1 with 2 outs in the bottom on the ninth when Craig Kimbrel (0.2 IP, 2 R, H (HR), 2 BB) gave up a homerun to Eddie Rosario and turned the game over to Keegan Akin (0.1 IP, H, WP) with two men on. An Akin wild pitch advanced the runners and then a single tied the game at 3.

Neither team scored in the tenth inning and a Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 5, HR, R, 2 RBI) two-run homer in the eleventh put the O’s up 5-3. The Nats plated two runs in their half of the 11th to tie the game again.

Jorge Mateo (1 for 4, R, RBI) was the difference in the twelfth inning as his single scored Jordan Westburg (1 for 5, 2B, 2 R) while he advanced to third base on two Washington overthrows. Mateo scored the seventh Baltimore run on a wild pitch. That run was crucial as the Nats pushed one run across in the bottom of the 12th.

Jacob Webb (1.0 IP, UER, H, K) saved the game for the winning pitcher Albert Suarez (2.0 IP, 2 R, 1 UER, BB, K).

Kyle Bradish started and gave the team 5.0 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits with 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, a wild pitch thrown and a hit batter. That was long forgotten seven innings later, however.

Anthony Santander went 1 for 3 with a homerun, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, a walk and was hit by a pitch. Santander also made a spectacular diving catch in the fourth inning.

Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 5 with a homerun, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Colton Cowser went 2 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.
