B.A.M! O’s Win

The Baltimore Orioles began a three-game series in Fenway Park on Tuesday with a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox (25-34). It was the Orioles’ third win in a row as well as their first road win against an A.L. East opponent. Baltimore has now won 8 of their last 11 games and has moved into a tie with the Toronto Blue Jays (29-32) for 3rd place in the division.

The win was the handywork of three players in particular, starting pitcher Shane Baz (3-5), Pete Alonso and Coby Mayo.

Baz lasted 7.0 innings and scattered 4 hits; he allowed 2 runs while walking 2, striking out 6 and throwing a wild pitch. Tuesday was the fourth consecutive quality start of the season for Baz as well as the team’s fifth consecutive start of 6.0 or more innings.

Alonso, who went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI, hit a 2-run homerun in the third inning to put the O’s up 3-1. It was his 12th homerun of the season and his 7th in a month.

Mayo hit a solo homerun leading off the second inning and was awarded the homer after a review that showed the ball hit above the line on the top of the Green Monster. He finished the night 1 for 4.

Baltimore scored their fourth run in the fourth inning. Tyler O’Neill (1 for 4, SB), whose bats seems to be in witness protection, crossed the plate on a Blaze Alexander (1 for 3, SB) sacrifice fly after leading off the inning with a single and advancing to third on a Leody Taveras (1 for 3) sacrifice bunt. That single was O’Neill’s 7th hit over the past 19 games played.

Gunnar Henderson doubled in 4 at-bats

Rico Garcia earned his 4th save for a 2 strike out ninth inning while Andrew Kittredge allowed a hit and struck out 1 in the eighth.

The Birds seemingly are putting everything together at present, the hope is they sustain it.
