Held hitless through 5.1 innings, the Baltimore Orioles lost 5-1 to the Los Angeles Angels (33-48) Tuesday night. The loss halted the team’s current winning streak and thwarted the quest for a fourth straight win once again. Baltimore batters managed to record just three hits over the remainder of the game.
The no-hitter was broken up by a Jeremiah Jackson single. In the seventh inning Gunnar Henderson led off with a single and Pete Alonso followed that up by drawing a six-pitch walk. Samuel Basallo grounded into a force out the eliminated Alonso and advanced Henderson to third. One out later, Leody Taveras singled to knock in Henderson. The next seven Orioles’ batters were retired to end the game.
Angels’ starter Ryan Johnson (1-2) proved to be a puzzle that the Orioles could not solve. The right-hander, while seeing his no-hit effort end by Jackson, walked 1 and struck out 8 of the 19 batters he faced over 6.0 innings.
On the other hand, Shane Baz (4-8) did not fare as well. He allowed all five Angels’ runs on 8 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5 in 5.0 innings of work. Baz faced 24 batters over that span. A two-run homerun by Nolan Schanuel in the first inning would prove to be essentially all the runs that the Angels would have needed to secure the win.
The Angels opened their half of the fifth inning with four straight hits to score a pair of runs before a sacrifice fly by Jorge Soler allowed the third run of the inning to cross home plate. Good morning good afternoon good night.
At the mathematical midpoint of the 2025 season the Orioles held a 35-46 record. The current Orioles are only 3.0 games better at the same point this year.
Reaching a .500 record should be the immediate goal. Speaking to the quality of the American League in 2026, the Orioles are 2.0 games back in the hunt for the third and final wild card spot with five teams ahead of them, however. It is difficult for anyone to make the case that this team in its current state is playoff worthy.
2026 Record: 38-43
Next Game: Wed. 6/24 @ 4:07 pm @ Los Angeles Angels
