The Baltimore Orioles finally reached the .500 mark on Monday night, a mark that they had been chasing since the end of April. They held that record for less than 24 hours thanks to a 4-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies (53-86) Tuesday night. Sadly, this lack of sustained success has been the hallmark of the 2026 season.
The Orioles fell behind 2-0 in the second inning. With Kyle Bradish on the mound, Colorado’s Adael Amador hit a solo homerun to right field with two outs. Bradish then avoided surrendering back-to-back homeruns by inches when Zac Veen‘s fly ball to the center field wall was ruled a triple upon an umpire’s review. The ruling was a moot point when Veen scored on a Jake McCarthy single.
Bradish retired the next five Colorado batters before allowing base runners in both the fourth and fifth innings. He finished his 27th start having allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
The Orioles scored their first run on a double play in the third inning. Pete Alonso (1 for 3, BB) was on first base with Carlos Narvaez (1 for 1, BB) on third with one out when Gunnar Henderson (0 for 4) hit a ground ball up the first base line that was called fair. TJ Rumfield stepped on first to record the out on Henderson and take off the force out. Alonso was able to delay getting called out long enough to allow Narvaez to score.
Jackson Holliday (3 for 5) hit his 7th homerun of the year to right field in the seventh inning to draw the Orioles even at 2-2. That moment was overshadowed in the bottom of the inning when Holliday failed to catch a pop up to short right field by Mickey Moniak. Moniak reached second base on the miscue and then scored on Rumfield’s one-out homerun to right center field.
That error and subsequent homerun ruined the MLB debut of Baltimore’s # 7 prospect Luis De Leon (0-1), who took the loss for allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 1 hit with a strikeout in 1.0 inning of work.
If only the Orioles could stop this up and down pattern and just move forward.
