The Baltimore Orioles ended the Camden Yards part of the 2026 season with a 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays (77-82). The win of Wednesday’s nightcap completed a sweep of the split doubleheader, a sweep of the three-game Toronto series and kept the team’s slim playoff hopes alive for another day. The Birds’ tragic number remains at 1 after the Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-4 Wednesday night. Baltimore’s record in games played at Oriole Park was 39-42 (.481).
On a day when Samuel Basallo was placed on the 7-day concussion IL and it was announced that Jackson Holliday will need surgery on his left wrist, RHP Trey Gibson (2-3) was recalled from Norfolk to start the nightcap. All Gibson did with the opportunity was pitch 6.2 scoreless innings by limiting Toronto to 3 hits, He walked 2 and struck out 7 as well, while earning the win. At one point during the game Gibson retired a string of 10 consecutive Blue Jays’ batters.
Felix Bautista made an appearance in the ninth inning and allowed a two-run homerun to Davis Schneider while striking out Kazuma Okamoto.
Baltimore struck first in their half of first inning. Pete Alonso (0 for 3) was hit by a pitch with one out and Coby Mayo (1 for 3) doubled with two outs; both scored on a RBI-single by Christian Encarnacion-Strand (2 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBI). Colton Cowser‘s (1 for 3, RBI) double allowed CES to score the third run of the inning.
CES added a solo homerun in the fourth inning. The blast, his 11th of the season, travelled 383 ft. to left field and settled in a young fan’s glove after an outstanding catch.
Once again the Orioles’ hits were limited as they produced a meek four hits in the nightcap and a total of 9 in the doubleheader. Additionally, they went 1 for 2 with runners in scoring position in the game and 2 for 10 on the day.
At the end of the game Alonso led the team onto the infield to salute the fans, a classy move by a classy person.
Alonso had nothing but praise and gratitude for the fans during his post-game interview.
