The Orioles and the New York Yankees played two in Baltimore to begin a four-game weekend series.
Game one went to the Yankees 6-5 in extra innings. The Yankees scored twice in the top of the inning with Clint Frazier‘s RBI single proving to be the winning run as Renato Nunez hit into a double play that scored Travis Lakins before Bryan Holaday flew out to end the game.
Lakins, the only reliever out of six to allow runs, took the loss. Thomas Eshelman started and was removed after 2.1 ineffective innings pitched in which he allowed 4 runs on 3 hits.
Cedric Mullins, Rio Ruiz and Renato Nunez all hit homeruns for the Orioles.
The Orioles bounced back to win the nightcap 6-3.
Ryan Mountcastle continues to be as advertised as he went 3 for 3 with 1 homerun (his first at Camden Yards), 2 runs scored and 3 RBI; he now has a slash line of .356/ .420/ .600/ 1.020.
Pedro Severino went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored as well.
Jorge Lopez started and pitched 5.0 innings to earn the win. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
Cesar Valdez earned his first save with a 2.0 inning, scoreless relief effort in which he allowd 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 3.
