Wednesday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays had a familiar theme. Matt Harvey started the game, gave up runs and didn’t last five innings; a pattern fans have seen too many times this season. In the end, the Orioles fell to the Blue Jays by a score of 10-2.
Harvey spotted the Blue Jays three runs in the first inning via a walk, three singles and a double and a fielder’s choice. The Orioles did have a Ryan McKenna catch overturned by challenge that was ruled a trap upon review.
Harvey settled down for two innings and then had a meltdown in the fourth inning. His final line was 3.2 IP, 6 Runs allowed, 9 H, 1 BB, 3 K and a 10th loss.
A trio of relievers, Adam Plutko, Cesar Valdez and Zac Lowther, combined to allow 4 runs on 6 hits over 4.1 innings pitched before Paul Fry got the Blue Jays to go three-up and three-down in the 9th inning.
Despite tallying 10 hits the Orioles only managed to score just two runs.
Austin Hays went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and 1 RBI.
Domingo Leyba went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Pat Valaika also had a multi-hit game and finished 2 for 4.
