The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 in front of 45,017 raucous fans Friday. The one-day delay was worth the wait in the end.
The Orioles jumped out to a 4-0 after three innings and saw the Yankees counter with 3 runs in the fourth. Two runs in the top half of the sixth gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead that the Birds tie with a run in their half of the inning. The Birds took the lead again with two runs in the seventh. The Yankees came within a run by scoring one in the eighth. The ninth inning was not without drama. Aaron Judge drew a two out walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Anthony Rizzo flew out to left to put the game “in the win column”.
Adley Rutschman went 1 for 3 with a run scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 5 with a double, 1 run scored and 1 RBI.
Ramon Urias went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk. He also started a key double play in the eighth.
Dean Kremer got the start and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (1 HR), walked 3 and struck out 4 in 5.0 innings of work.
Cionel Perez (1-0) was credited with the win after allowing a run on 3 hits with a strikeout in 1.0 IP.
Bryan Baker struck out 1 pitching in the eighth and Felix Bautista earned the save, his third, with a 1 walk 2 strikeout ninth.
