Saturday’s game time temperature was 46 degrees and that was appropriate for the Kyle Bradish Jersey Hoodie giveaway. Combine that with a slight breeze and it is no wonder many fans were bundled up despite the sunshine. The fans felt the chill and so did the Orioles offense as the Minnesota Twins (1-1) defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4-1.

Minnesota pitching limited the Birds to 5 hits while striking out 16 Baltimore batters. Further thwarting the O’s offense was the fact that 11 batters were left on base and twice were bases loaded situations wasted; Dylan Beavers struck out in the first inning to leave the bases loaded and Gunnar Henderson flied out to right in the sixth inning to do the same.

The Orioles were limited in their opportunities as well, going 1 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

Jeremiah Jackson was the offense’s leader going 2 for 4 with a RBI. Pete Alonso also recorded his first hit as an Oriole, a first inning single to center.

This lack of production tagged Bradish (0-1) with the loss. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, including a fifth inning two-run homerun to Royce Lewis, while walking 3 and striking out 4 over 4.2 innings.

A bright spot for the bullpen was Anthony Nunez. Acquired at the trade deadline from the New York Mets as a part of the package for Cedric Mullins, the righty pitched clean innings in the eighth and ninth, striking out 3 Twins batters in his MLB debut.

Hopefully the offense will heat up with Sunday’s projected high of 59 degrees.
