Wednesday’s afternoon game certainly agreed with the Orioles’ bats. Not only did the bats wake up, the Birds benefited from a quality start and a solid relief effort. It was a good day all around as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers (4-2) by a score of 8-3.
14,324 fans were on hand to witness the first game-ending strike three on a successful ABS challenge. Texas’ Evan Carter was batting with two outs and a 1-2 count when a four-seam fastball from Albert Suarez was called a ball. Samuel Basallo challenged the call and was successful.
Suarez entered the game in the seventh and allowed 1 run on 2 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts. The only blemish in his 3.0 inning outing was a Corey Seager eighth inning homerun. Suarez recorded his first save of the season.
Trevor Rogers (2-0) started the game and pitched as we have come to expect. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with a walkand 3 strikeouts across 6.0 innings. Texas parlayed four consecutive two out singles into two runs in the fourth inning. Aside from that inning Rogers held the Rangers in check.
Offensively, Dylan Beavers led the was by going 3 for 5 with a homerun, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Also homering today was Basallo.
Taylor Ward had a pair of hits, including a double, and knocked in 2.
Leody Taveras had a good game against his former team by going 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored, 2 RBI and a pair of walks.
Pete Alonso, Colton Cowser and Jeremiah Jackson each contributed a hit to the cause.
A good game all around and hopefully it will lead to moe to come.
