The Baltimore Orioles lost 6-5 to the Kansas City Royals (8-10) on Tuesday night. Kansas City’s winning run was scored by Maikel Garcia when Ryan Helsley‘s (0-2) wild pitch got away from Adley Rutschman. Garcia opened the Kansas City ninth with a walk, advanced to second on a Bobby Witt Jr. walk and advanced to third on Hesley’s first wild pitch of the inning. The loss was hung on Helsley for his 0.1 ining of work.
Shane Baz took the mound for the start and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks, 4 strikeouts and 2 wild pitches thrown across 6.1 innings; he exited with the Orioles down 4-3.
Grant Wolfram finished the seventh inning, allowing 1 hit. Rico Garcia came into the fray in the eighth inning and gave up his first hit and first run of the season when he surrendered a leadoff homerun to Michael Massey.
Baltimore opened the scoring in the second inning with a Coby Mayo three-run homerun. Kansas City challenged but the call was upheld.
Making his return from the Injured List, Rutschman went 2 for 4 including a two-run homerun in the eighth inning. As luck would have it, the homerun was predicted by O’s pitcher Dean Kremer during his in-game interview with the MASN broadcast team. Ironically, Kremer’s interview came in the second inning when Mayo homered.
Pete Alonso went 2 for 4 with a double while Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
For the second game in a row, a Baltimore base runner was picked off. Tonight it was Weston Wilson who scored a double whammy as he was picked off and caught stealing on the same play in the fourth inning.
In the end, the Orioles failed to extend the Royals’ eight game losing streak.
2026 Record: 11-12
