O’s Come Home And Come Up Short

The Baltimore Orioles lost 4-3 to the Athletics (20-18) on Friday in front of 39,311 bobblehead crazy fans. Some of those fans arrived as early as 12:15 pm for the 7:05 pm game in order to get a Tupac Shakur bobblehead.

All the ingredients were there for an electric night as Camden Yards was filled with raucous fans and the team was returning from a seven game road trip. The Orioles got a quality start and saw baseballs leave the yard twice but it was not enough in the end.

Kyle Bradish (1-5) did his part by throwing 7.0 innings in which he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with a walk, 10 strikeouts and a hit batter. The loss was hung on him when Baltimore’s ninth inning comeback fell short. Trailing 4-2 in the home half of the ninth, Adley Rutschman drew a walk to lead off the inning, advanced to second on defensive indifference with two outs and scored on Samuel Basallo‘s (1 for 2) RBI single. Leody Taveras walked to put two runners on before Jeremiah Jackson struck out to end the game.

Trey Gibson pitched the final two innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with a walk and a pair of strike outs.

Pete Alonso went 1 for 4 with a fourth inning homerun, his 8th of the season and his 4th in 8 games.

Rutschman also homered with one out in the sixth inning and finished the night by going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk.

Four hits were all the Orioles could manage against Athletics’ pitching while striking out nine times.
