No-hit for six innings, the Baltimore Orioles broke through in the seventh with three hits on their way to a 3-2 win over the New York Yankees (26-16) Monday night at Camden Yards.
It started with an Adley Rutschman single followed by a Tyler O’Neill one-out walk. The Yankees then made a pitching change, Brent Headrick for starter Ryan Weathers, that did not go well. Coby Mayo greeted Headrick with a 389 ft. three-run homerun to left field; he was a late substitute for Samuel Basallo who was scratched from the line-up with discomfort in his left knee. Weston Wilson added a two-out single for good measure.
Mayo’s homerun resulted in a win for Dietrich Enns (1-0), who pitched 1.2 innings in relief of starter Brandon Young. Young was tagged by Ben Rice for a two-run homerun in the third inning. He lasted 5.1 innings and allowed 3 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Young tossed 97 pitches (54 K’s) to 22 New York batters.
Rico Garcia struck out two in the eighth while Anthony Nunez earned his second save of the season after giving uo a hit and striking out one in the ninth inning.
The game ended with Jose Caballero being called out while attempting to steal second base. The original call of safe was overturned upon review.
No matter how it comes, a win is a win, especially against the Yankees.
