Boston Takes Game 2

The Baltimore Orioles were thwarted in their continued pursuit of a .500 record on Wednesday night in Fenway Park. Attempting to draw two games below .500, the Birds lost to the Boston Red Sox (26-34) by the lopsided score of 8-1. The Red Sox scored in the home half of the first inning and never looked back.

The Orioles scored their lone run on an Adley Rutschman (2 for 5) RBI-triple in the seventh inning. Taylor Ward (3 for 4, BB), who singled with one out, scored on Rutschman’s hit. The run was simply too little, too late.

Chris Bassitt (4-4) made the start and lasted just 3.0 innings before leaving the game with lower back tightness. Over those three innings he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and a strike out. Among the hits given up was a two-run homerun to Wilyer Abreu. Abreu also knocked in Boston’s first run.

Bassitt was relieved by Albert Suarez who managed to surrender 5 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 2 strike outs over 2.0 innings.

Anthony Nunez and Grant Wolfram combined to close out the final 3.0 innings.

On the offense side, Gunnar Henderson, Pete Alonso, Coby Mayo and Jackson Holliday each tallied one hit in the game with Henderson’s being a fifth inning double.

Collectively, Baltimore left 11 runners on base and went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
