Wednesday’s game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards was another Bark In The Park night, a night that Jackson Holliday seems to enjoy. The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners (36-33) on Wednesday by a score of 7-2. Holliday (1 for 4) hit a grand slam homerun in the seventh that put the game essentially out of reach at 7-0. Yhe grand slam was a bit ironic because the Orioles failed to cash in on a bases loaded with no outs situation in the third inning.
The game was a close contest between starting pitchers. Baltimore’s Brandon Young (5-1) outlasted Seattle’s George Kirby in the contest. Young recorded the win after allowing 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5 over 7.0 scoreless innings. Kirby, on the other hand, allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Pete Alonso touched Kirby for a lead-off solo homerun in the sixth.
The game was scoreless going into that sixth inning, when the Orioles put 3 runs on the board. Following Alonso’s homerun Leody Taveras (2 for 3, 2 B, BB, SB) and Blaze Alexander (1 for 3) each hit a RBI-double.
Seattle mounted a slight comeback in the eighth inning with Grant Wolfram on the mound for the Orioles.
With runners on second and third and one out, Julio Rodriguez knocked in a run on his groundout to second. Josh Naylor then hit a RBI-single to put Seattle’s second run on the board.
Yennier Cano was called on the get the final four outs of the game, which he did with the help of two strikeouts.
