The rollercoaster ride continues. After three consecutive games of scoring just one run the Baltimore Orioles do what they did on Sunday. Ten runs on fifteen hits, four which were homeruns that resulted in seven runs, is what they did in a 10-5 defeat of the Texas Rangers (59-59).
The “Polar Bear”, Pete Alonso, lead the way by hitting a pair of homeruns on his way to a 3 for 3 game with 3 runs scored, 4 RBI and a pair of walks. His first homerun, a shot that travelled 393 ft. and hit the left field foul pole, allowed Gunnar Henderson (0 for 4, 2 R, BB, SB) to score in the second inning. Alonso’s second homerun also allowed Henderson to score and came in the fourth inning. That blast landed 404 ft. away from homeplate in left center field.
Alonso also had a role in the O’s runs in the first inning. He singled with one out, advanced to third on Jackson Holliday‘s (2 for 5, 2 R, SB) double and scored on a Dylan Beavers (1 for 4, R, BB) RBI-single with two outs, Holliday subsequently scored on a Leody Taveras (2 for 5) RBI-double.
Colton Cowser (2 for 4, 2 RBI, BB) led off the second with his 9th homerun of the season, a 441 ft. shot to dead center field.
Two more runs were scored in the sixth inning as a result of a two-run homerun off the bat of Tyler O’Neill (1 for 5), his third in the last seven days.
Cowser’s bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning accounted for the Orioles’ tenth and final run.
The game was not kind to Cade Povich, however. The southpaw lasted just 3.0 innings after allowing 3 Texas runs on 4 hits with the runs coming on a Brandon Nimmo three-run homerun in the third. He didn’t factor into the decision but reliever Yaramil Hiraldo (1-0) did. Hiraldo earned the win for his one hit, one walk, 3 strike out 2.0 inning appearance in which he hit a batter as well.
Albert Suarez pitched the eighth and ninth innings and gave up the Rangers’ final two runs in the ninth.
