“What a time to do it” was Pete Alonso‘s comment in regard to how the team is doing. He said this in his post-game interview when asked about the Baltimore Orioles’ recent success. That success was on display Sunday with their 10-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays (74-49).
The Orioles blew the game open with a 7-run sixth inning which came on the heels of a 3-run fifth. Walks to Leody Taveras (1 for 4, 2 R, BB) and Coby Mayo (1 for 3, 2 R, BB) in the fifth inning were followed by a two-out RBI-single by Jackson Holliday (2 for 4, 2B, 2R, 3 RBI, BB) and a two-RBI double by Alonso (1 for 1, 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, HBP).
Baltimore scored all seven of their sixth inning runs with two outs. Colton Cowser (2 for 5, R, 2 RBI) started the scoring with a two-run homerun, his 11th on the season. Holliday then knocked in Mayo and Yohel Pozo (1 for 3, R, BB) with a double. A pair of walks loaded the bases for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (1 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI) who cleared the bases with a double to left field.
The offensive outburst came in support of starter and game-winner Trevor Rogers (8-8). Throwing 98 pitches (73 K’s) over 6.0 innings, Rogers allowed 2 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 6 strike outs. He did give up a solo homerun to Ryan Vilade in the fourth inning.
Alex Hoppe, Grant Wolfram and Albert Suarez came out of the bullpen and combined to allow two hits with four strike outs over the last 3.0 innings.
Can the Orioles extend this winning streak before returning to Camden Yards and reach the .500 mark as well?
