Sunday’s game at Camden Yards saw a team that couldn’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag. The Baltimore Orioles managed just two hits without drawing a walk in their 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays (77-53).
The Orioles recorded their first hit with one out in the third inning. Seventeen straight Baltimore batters were retired after that hit; the string was broken with a lead-off hit in the ninth inning. In the end, the Orioles accumulated two hits, five strikeouts and had a runner reach base on an error over thirty at-bats.
Both Baltimore hits came off the bat of one player, Colton Cowser. Cowser went 2 for 3 officially and hit a double in the third inning while adding a 382 ft. solo homerun to center field in the ninth inning.
Leody Taveras reached base by a throwing error following Cowser’s homerun. Sadly, that was the last hurrah as Jackson Holliday, Pete Alonso and Gunnar Henderson were retired in order.
Shane Baz (4-14) started on Sunday and really should look into hiring a lawer to sue for support. Once again, the Orioles failed to deliver runs in a Baz start. While the Birds were lacking in offense, Baz allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and a wild pitch across 5.2 innings of work.
A pair of wins followed by an anemic loss, such seems to be the story of the 2026 Orioles. What version of the team would show up should this team reach the playoffs?
