Saturday’s game in Toronto was not a memorable one for Kyle Bradish (7-14) as the Toronto Blue Jays (74-75) torched him for 5 runs over 3.0 innings, including homeruns by Brett Bateman (solo) and Alejandro Kirk (two-run). In the end, Bradish took the loss as the Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-3.
Bradish finished with a losing line of 5 runs allowed on 8 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
The Blue Jays established a 5-0 lead after three innings. Baltimore answered with a run in the fourth when Gunnar Henderson (1 for 3, BB) doubled with one out and scored on a fielding error and a throwing error by Kazuma Okamoto on a ball hit by Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
The Orioles did manage to put runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth inning to no avail.
Andres Gimenez delivered a RBI-double in the home half of the sixth to extend Toronto’s lead to 6-1.
Pete Alonso‘s (1 for 3, 2 BB) 35th homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh inning, gave the Orioles some hope. Alonso is now one homerun away from the 300 mark in his career as well as 1 RBI away from 100 for the season.
A bases loaded sacrifice fly by Ernie Clement in the seventh extended Toronto’s lead at the expense of Orioles’ prospect Luis De Leon.
The Orioles went three-up, three-down in the eighth and saw Dylan Beavers (0 for 5) reach second on a throwing error by Toronto’s Louis Varland with two outs in the ninth. Alonso’s lineout to third ended the game.
Regardless of what side of the optimism scale you fall on, the Orioles are running out of time to make a run at the Wild Card this season.
