Manny Machado gave the Red Sox fits both offensively and defensively tonight. On offense, he finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, including a towering home run over the green monster in the 6th. On defense, he helped turn a key double play in the 1st, made a nice sliding stop before gunning to second for the force out in the 5th, and made the game ending out on a diving catch at third. He’s the Hangout Player of the Game.

Starting Pitching

  • Dylan Bundy extended his streak of quality start to five with another great outing tonight. The Red Sox couldn’t get much going over the first seven innings as Bundy shut them out while allowing just two hits. They finally got two him in the 8th with three consecutive hits and a run scored with no outs before Buck made the call to the pen. Final Line: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, Win.

Relief

  • Darren O’Day allowed an inherited runner to score but otherwise worked a scoreless 8th for the birds.
  • Brad Brach retired the side in order to earn the save in the 9th.

Hitting

  • The bats collected just six hits on the night but made them count, particularly with a key three run inning in the 8th. After Seth Smith walked, the Red Sox committed back to back errors, allowing pinch runner Craig Gentry to score.
  • Mark Trumbo then delivered an RBI single. He finished 2-for-4 tonight.
  • Chris Davis capped off the scoring in the 8th with a sac fly.
  • Caleb Joseph hit an RBI double in the 5th to kick off the scoring.
  • Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Defense

  • Manny is a human highlight real as mentioned many times before.
  • Ryan Flaherty got a workout in left field and made a nice diving catch in the 7th.
  • Adam Jones made a couple stellar running catches in center.
