Bradish Pitched Like A Stopper

Carried by a dominant pitching performance from starter Kyle Bradish (4-7), the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners (38-37) 5-3 on Wednesday night. Combining that start with a pair of homeruns was the winning formula to halt the Orioles’ three game losing streak.

Bradish limited the Mariners to a single run over 7.2 innings. He scattered 5 hits and allowed a pair of walks while striking out 12 of the 28 batters ge faced. Bradish was removed in the eighth with a runner on first and two outs, having thrown 100 pitches (65 K’s). His 12 strikeouts equaled the number of batters John Means struck out in his 2021 no-hitter in the same ballpark. Bradish is the first Baltimore pitcher to record 12 or more strikeouts in a game over the past five tears.

Seattle scored their lone run off of Bradish with a one-out double by Julio Rodriguez which was followed by a RBI-single from Dominic Canzone.

The game got dicey in the ninth when Ryan Helsley, making his first appearance since being activated from the Injured List, gave up homeruns to Canzone and Cole Young, the first two batters he faced. A groundout and two strikeouts ended both the rally and the game.

Gunnar Henderson hit his 15th homerun of the season in the third inning, a 370 ft. two-run shot to right center.

The Orioles tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Leody Taveras tripled in the sixth, allowing Pete Alonso to score. Jackson Holliday (1 for 3, R, RBI, BB) scored in the seventh on a Taylor Ward ground out double play. Holliday walked to open the inning and advanced to third on Blaze Alexander‘s (3 for 3, R, BB) single.

Holliday put the icing on the cake with his ninth inning solo homerun.

Tyler O’Neill jumped above the outfield wall to rob Cal Raleigh of a homerun in the sixth.
