O’s End Another Three Game Win Streak

Once again, the Baltimore Orioles failed to put together a four game winning streak. Their latest winning streak ended on Sunday with a 3-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds (41-48). The game was quite the pitcher’s duel, however.

Kyle Bradish (5-9) went toe to toe with Cincinnati’s Nick Lodolo (3-2) but in the end he fell short and took the loss. Bradish allowed 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 1, striking out 5 and throwing a wild pitch over 7.2 innings. He threw 106 pitches (73 K’s) in another quality start. The big blow against him was a fifth inning two-run homerun off the bat of Spencer Steer. Baltimore’s bats, however, failed to help Bradish.

On the opposing side, Lodolo held the Orioles to 1 run on 6 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

Baltimore answered back in the sixth inning on a Taylor Ward (2 for 4) one-out double and a Coby Mayo (1 for 3) two-out RBI single. The O’s then loaded the bases with a pair of walks but a Jeremiah Jackson swinging strikeout ended the threat.

Sal Stewart‘s RBI-double in the eighth extended the Cincinnati lead to 3-1. In the ninth, the Orioles loaded the bases with one out off of Cincinnati’s Emilio Pagan. Gunnar Henderson‘s (0 for 4) sacrifice fly plated a run before Adley Rutschman (1 for 5) stranded runners on first and second with his lineout to center field.

Game over, winning streak over.

With six games at Oriole Park remaining before the All-Star break, President of Baseball Ops Mike Elias and the rest of the front office once again need to make an honest assessment of the club and give serious consideration as to how to proceed before the MLB Trade Deadline on August 3rd. Haven’t we been here before?
