Let’s call Tuesday’s game what it was, a 14-0 beatdown of the Baltimore Orioles by the Detroit Tigers (51-57). While the Tigers scored in each of the eight innings that they batted in, the Birds were limited to three hits.
Jackson Holliday went 2 for 3 and newcomer Yohel Pozo went 1 for 3. Pete Alonso and Leody Taveras were each able to work a walk off of Detroit pitchers.
The above two paragraphs could be and should be the end of the story of Tuesday’s debacle but the humiliation suffered by Baltimore pitchers needs to be documented.
Dean Kremer (1-4) started the contest for the O’s and to put it mildly, struggled. He allowed 8 runs on 8 hits, including homeruns to Eduardo Valencia and Gleyber Torres, with 3 walks, 4 strikeouts and a wild pitch over 4.0 innings.
The first reliever that Manager Craig Albernaz threw into the fray was Albert Suarez. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2 in 1.1 innings.
Josh Walker followed and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits with a strike out over 1.2 innings.
The score was 12-0 when Chadwick Tromp took the mound in the eighth inning. The catcher turned sacrificial lamb as the position player-pitcher faced 6 batters and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, which included Valencia’s second homerun of the night, and walked 1 in a 16 pitch (8 K’s) inning. Tromp’s velocity ranged from 35.9 to 55.7 mph.
With 54 games remaining in the 2026 season, can we please stop talking about the Orioles being in the wild card race?!
