The Baltimore Orioles dropped the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader 8-6 to the Minnesota Twins. The Orioles have now lost five straight to the Twins and sit 11 games under .500.
Trailing 4-0 going into the home half of the third inning, the Orioles exploded for six runs. Three consecutive one-out singles resulted in Baltimore’s first run. Ramon Laureano (1 for 3, R, BB) walked with two outs to load the bases. Cedric Mullins (2 for 4, HR, R, 4 RBI) hit a grand slam homerun to right and Heston Kjerstad (1 for 2, HR, R, RBI, BB) followed that with a solo homerun to right-center. The Orioles were then limited to four hits over the final 27 batters.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.
Jackson Holliday and Ryan Mountcastle each went 1 for 5 with a run scored.
Chayce McDermott made his first Camden Yards start and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits (HR) while walking 3, striking out 5 and hitting a batter over 3.0 innings.
Charlie Morton relieved McDermott and allowed 1 run on 2 hits (HR), walked 1 and struck out 4 over 3.0 innings.
Yennier Cano (0-1),pitching in the eighth inning, allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, the big blow was a Kody Clemens three-run homerun, walked 1, struck out 2 and committed a balk. Cano took the loss.
