The Baltimore Orioles looked like a totally different team Wednesday afternoon in a game that was moved from 6:35 pm to 1:05 pm due to the forecasted inclement weather. Partially vanquishing their four game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees (27-17) earlier this month, the Orioles shutout the “Bronx Bombers” 7-0 to win the series 2 games to 1.
What made the win sweeter is the fact that Baltimore’s pitchers limited the Yankees to one hit in their first shutout of 2026.
Kyle Bradish (2-5) held the Yankees hitless for 4.1 innings before giving up a double to Jazz Chisholm Jr. Trying to duplicate Trevor Rogers‘ one-hit complete game shutout of the Yankees on September 19, 2025, Bradish came up short. The bullpen did the rest, however. Over 6.0 innings, Bradish threw 100 pitches (60 K’s) in allowing that one hit, walking 3, striking out 7 and throwing a wild pitch. His pitch mix was fairly equal among his curveball (31%), 4 seam fastball (28%) and sinker (27%). He used his slider (14%) when needed.
Keegan Akin, Dietrich Enns and Yennier Cano each pitched 1.0 inning to preserve the win for Bradish.
Leading the way for the offense was Blaze Alexander who went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base. His key hit was a 2-RBI single in the 6th inning.
Coby Mayo (2 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) doubled in Leody Taveras in the 2nd inning to open the Orioles’ scoring.
Pete Alonso went 2 for 4 with a RBI single in the third.
In a homerun that was reminiscent of his grand slam against the Houston Astros on April 30th, Adley Rutschman (1 for 3, 1 Run scored, 3 RBI) hit a two-run one in the 5th inning that hit the glove of Yankees’ right fielder Spencer Jones and bounced on the top of the right-center field wall for a 2-RBI homer. He had a RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning.
The Orioles placed Dylan Beavers on the 10-day IL today with a right oblique strain. He is the 12th Oriole currently on the IL and the 19th in total for the season. New York can certainly relate as they saw starter Max Fried (4-3) leave the game after 3.0 innings with “left elbow posterior soreness”.
2026 Record: 20-24
Next Game: Fri. 5/15 @ 6:45 pm @ Washington Nationals (MLB Rivalry Weekend)
