Jorge Mateo may have most wanted posters all over the south side of Chicago when all is said and done. The Orioles shortstop went 2 for 3 with a double, a homerun (5), 3 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk. He also robbed the White Sox rookie second baseman Lenyn Sosa of his first MLB hit in the 5th inning.
Austin Hays (2 for 5, 1 2B, 3 RBI) blew the game open in the 7th inning with his bases-loaded double.
Cedric Mullins went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Winning pitcher and starter, Spenser Watkins (1-1), allowed an unearned run on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4 in 5.0 innings of work.
Nick Vespi continues to shine in relief. He walked 1 and struck out 2 in 1.0 inning and has a 0.79 ERA over 11.1 innings pitched.
Dillon Tate was not as sharp, allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 1 strikeout over 2.0 innings. He opened the ninth inning with 2 consecutive hit batters, one of which eventually scored Chicago’s second run.
