The Baltimore Orioles began the second half of the 2022 season with a 7-6 loss at the hands of the New York Yankees. The Yankees were coming off of a double-header loss to the Houston Astros and Aaron Judge may have taken some frustration out on the Orioles. Judge hit his 35th and 36th homeruns of the season which accounted for 4 Yankees runs.

Starter Tyler Wells (7-6) gave up both of Judge’s homeruns and finished the day by giving up 5 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The loss was also hung on Wells.

Trailing 7-3 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Orioles mounted a comeback. Anthony Santander (2 for 5, 1 run scored, 3 RBI) hit a one-out, three run homerun to bring the Birds within a run. Adley Rutschman (2 for 4, 1 double, 1 walk) was the sole batter to reach base over the final 2.2 innings and that is how the comeback came up short.

Jorge Mateo went 1 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored and a RBI.

Rougned Odor went 1 for 4 with a double.

Cedric Mullins went 2 for 4 with a run scored, 1 RBI and a walk.

Felix Bautista and Dillon Tate struck out each batter they faced in the 8th and 9th inning respectively to give the team a chance at a comeback.
