Tuesday night’s game with the Washington Nationals was played under the cloud of news that beloved Baltimore Orioles third-baseman Brooks Robinson had passed away at the age of 86. The Orioles brightened that cloud with a 1-0 win over the Nationals.

Baltimore’s leadoff hitter Gunnar Henderson (2 for 4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI) took the seventh pitch he saw, an 88 mph cutter, in the bottom of the first inning 400 ft. to right-center at 107 mph for his 28th homerun of the season. He also attempted a straight steal of home in the bottom of the eighth but was tagged out to end the inning.

One pitcher, starter Kyle Bradish (12-7) made that one run hold up for the win. Bradish was at his best and was efficient, throwing 104 pitches (65 strikes) over 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits (a second inning single and 2 in the fourth), walking 2 and striking out 4. Bradish retired six in a row after the second single in the fourth and then followed that up with retiring seven in a row to finish out the game.

Yennier Cano was the one reliever needed to finish out the game. Cano struck out the side on 13 pitches (9 strikes).

Anthony Santander went 1 for 4.

Austin Hays and Ramon Urias each went 1 for 3.

Adam Frazier went 1 for 2 with a walk and a stolen base.
