Saturday’s game in the Rogers Centre had the makings of a repeat of Friday’s game. Leading 6-1 after five innings, the Toronto Blue Jays (31-34) held on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-4. Three homeruns were not enough for the Orioles to overcome the Blue Jays, nor were Gunnar Henderson‘s three additional singles; Baltimore scored their 4 runs on 6 hits.
Producing a third start to not last beyond 4.0 innings, Kyle Bradish (3-7) needed 81 pitches (51 K’s) to navigate 21 Toronto batters. He gave up 5 runs on 9 hits, including a three-run homerun to Ernie Clement in the 3rd inning. Bradish walked 3 and struck out 3 as well. He leaned heavily on his sinker and slider (a combined 78% of pitches thrown) and all three of his strike outs came on the sinker.
Keegan Akin and Albert Suarez each pitched 2.0 innings of relief. with Akin allowing a run on 2 hits and Suarez allowing a hit and striking out 3.
As mentioned earlier, Henderson went 3 for 4 with a run scored on the day.
Colton Cowser put the Birds on the board with a solo homerun in the second inning, his 5th of the season and his 4th in the last 19 games.
Pete Alonso hit his 13th homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, his 5th in the last 16 games.
Completing the trifecta was Blaze Alexander‘s solo homerun in the seventh, his second as an Oriole.
That’s three homeruns hit off of three different pitchers, Spencer Miles, Jeff Hoffman and Mason Fluharty, respectively.
Baltimore opened the game with runners at first and second with no outs as well as a runner on theird with two outs in the eighth and didn’t cash in either time. The team went three-up and three-down in the ninth to end the game; the third such inning of the game.
