When your starting pitcher goes 7.0 shut-out innings, it only takes one inning of offense to make a difference. That was on display on Friday as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0.
Dean Kremer (3-4) limited the Royals to 3 hits and a walk while striking out 3 and throwing a wild pitch over those 7.0 innings. He was quick and efficient, throwing 82 pitches (56 strikes) in a game that lasted just 2 hours and 3 minutes and earned the win, his third.
The Orioles bats did all their damage in the home half of the seventh inning. Adley Rutschman (1 for 4, 2B, R) led off the inning with a double, Ryan O’Hearn (2 for 4, HR, R, 2 RBI) homered to center field, Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 3, 2B, R) doubled and with two outs and the bases loaded, Emmanuel Rivera (1 for 3, RBI) singled him home. Three runs on five hits and a walk in the inning.
That was all the bullpen needed as Yennier Cano allowed a hit and struck out 1 in the eighth inning.
Felix Bautista earned his sixth save of the season by striking out 1 in the ninth.
Of note, by holding Bobby Witt Jr 0 for 4, the Orioles halted his 22 game hitting streak.
